Not What I Expected
The Nolan N43 Trilogy initially seemed to be a good helmet selection to me when I first tried it on. I had been wearing a Shoei RF800 which is still a good helmet but heavier and mine is getting old. The Nolan is very light and has some interesting features such as the removable chin/lower face guard, face shield and it is ready for electronics. Unfortunately for me, what I found out after a couple of rides is that the chin guard is too close and my chin rubs on the guard just enough to be annoying. I don't know how a microphone would ever fit. Removing the guard provides room but I would prefer the protection. I ride a Street Glide now and the ventillation system does not keep the shield very clear on cold mornings. The first detent for cracking the shield open is about .5 inchs and the buffetting causes the shield to vibrate quite a bit. Good, but it could be better!
This helmet by definition seems great. Convertible up to 6 different configurations, very cool paint-schemes, and Nolan nonetheless. I understand I have a very round head, so mostly all helmets fit me funny, and in this case, I have to take the chin off before putting it on or taking it off. Once I can put it on, it's all good and snug, probably it will be more comfortable with the wear-in.
The strap does hurt a bit the adams apple, try not to swallow saliva with this thing on. The strap could have been 1/4 inch more forward, but I suppose the designers then would have had problems with the removable chin bar.
The helmet sure feels safe, great viewing range, the retractable sunshield could be a little lower, but maybe I'm asking too much.

Good commuter helmet
I got this helmet last November, and after commuting northern Jersey through the last winter... I do like this helmet! Fits my head and I do appreciate the quick-release that comes with it. I do not use the chin-bar so easy to put on and take off and operate even with winter gloves on while sitting in traffic. Not too hot, not too cold - though you would want something on your face/neck when it drops below freezing, yes sir.
I would give it five stars if there were more positions on the main visor, apart from open and closed, AND if the fog-free insert was included. Had to order the insert to the visor from Nolan site, but it was minor one time inconvenience. The visor insert does complete the package, and would be good to have that included with the helmet in my opinion.
Actually, I would suggest getting a spare visor and few inserts at the same time if you plan to commute with this - or just ride in adverse weather alot, as eventually one might want to put a...
